What started as a hazy daydream on the beaches of Australia’s ‘Sunshine State’, Queensland, eventually brought bottled, beautiful skincare to our shores. Founder Riley Mitchell is on a mission to bring his vision of quality skincare to the forefront of the Australian skincare market all year round.
From the first dip of our toes into this project, it became evident that this was a brand built not just on a solid skincare formula, but a lifestyle. The founding team wanted to create an Australian-made product expertly formulated from top chemists with high-quality ingredients, vitamins and botanical extracts that give summer-ready results any day of the year.
The vision of Barni Skin is more than just skincare; it’s about self-care. It’s about embodying a positive feeling, an upbeat lifestyle, and a never-ending summer holiday. Barni Skin represents the best version of yourself and your best friend. It’s a lifestyle brand personified through skincare products that are recognisable, relatable, nostalgic, and here to stay.
The brand stands out with products that not only look good on social media but also feel great on your skin and do better for the planet. Launching with its hero serum, Barni Skin enters the world with validated confidence, offering vegan, cruelty-free products that Millennials and Gen Z’s love. This is because it’s not only planet-positive, but it’s also people-positive – it really works.
Transcending the realm of conventional skincare, Barni reinvents the art of self-care to a transportive ritual — conjuring images of perpetual sunlit leisure. With an intent to provide a vacation-like portal of escape, the brand experience is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
The brand revolves around a rich cobalt blue hue, with touches of sunlight and white evoking the image of sunlight dancing on the ocean’s surface. This visual theme connects Barni with a demographic that embraces outdoor adventures, travel, and the pleasures of life.
A striking uppercase sans serif font family is employed to craft a visual identity that exudes both contemporary appeal and timeless charm. Whilst the horizontal baseline subtly pays homage to the classic artisanal wooden beach signs, playfully suggesting that Barni Skin embodies the essence of summer. The array of font weights mirrors the diversity of Barni’s audience, enabling limitless typographic arrangements that further enhance the brand’s already distinct core messages.
Together, we developed a brand that feels both current and timeless, while still making space for playful use of colour – something that enables shelf stand out in a saturated category. All while aligning with Barni’s brand philosophy that “good skin should feel good”.
